Life in Chestermere: A Closer Look at Bridgeport and Chelsea

Community September 3, 2026

Chestermere has a way of slowing people down. It’s close enough to Calgary that the commute never feels like a real obstacle, but once you’re there, the lake changes the tone of the whole town. Mornings feel a little quieter, evenings a little longer. Shane Homes has two communities in Chestermere right now, Bridgeport and Chelsea, and each one gives people a different way to settle into that pace.

Bridgeport

Bridgeport is the newest of the two, and it sits on land that still has some of that open prairie feel, even with modern homes going up all around it. That’s really the appeal here. You get grocery stores, restaurants, and everyday convenience close by, but you’re also a short walk from wetlands, storm ponds, and open green space that make the neighbourhood feel bigger than it is.

We’re building both paired homes and laned homes in Bridgeport, so there’s a bit of flexibility depending on what kind of lot and floor plan someone’s looking for.

A few things worth knowing about the community itself. Chestermere Landing, Chestermere Station, and East Hills Shopping Centre are all within easy reach, and golfers will find the Lakeside Golf Club just a short drive away. The 12-acre wetland area and storm pond anchor a good chunk of the neighbourhood, complemented by three separate park spaces built for everything from a quiet walk to an afternoon outside with the kids. The Chestermere Recreation Centre, with its pools, gyms, and sports fields, is about five minutes away, and Chestermere Lake itself is close enough that it becomes part of the regular routine rather than a special occasion.

If you want to see it in person, our showhomes and Welcome Centre are located at 561 Bridgeport St. Come by, walk through the floor plans, and talk to our team about what’s available.

Chelsea

Chelsea takes a slightly different shape. Here, we’re building duplex homes for families who want lakeside living without losing an easy connection back to the city. The pace is Chestermere’s, relaxed, close to the water, a little slower than Calgary, but the city itself is never more than a few minutes away when you need it.

The floor plans reflect what families actually ask for. Sound insulation between units keeps things private. Owner’s suites give parents a bit of separate space. Layouts run from 1,640 to 1,736 square feet, and a lot of models come with a front veranda that ends up being the spot where people actually sit in the evening. Inside, kitchen windows are placed to bring in natural light and views of the outdoors, which opens up the main floor more than you’d expect from a duplex.

You can see the full lineup of Shane Homes duplexes and get a sense of what’s included in each one.

Chelsea’s location does a lot of the work too. With easy access to Stoney Trail and Highway 1, it sits about five minutes from Calgary’s eastern edge and roughly 20 minutes from downtown, while still keeping Chestermere Lake close by. East Hills Shopping Centre covers most of the everyday errands, with Costco, Walmart, Cineplex, and a good mix of restaurants and retailers, and the rest of Chestermere adds its own established dining and recreation on top of that. A network of walkable pathways runs through the community eco-park and surrounding green spaces, and as Chelsea keeps growing, future schools and a neighbourhood plaza are already part of the plan.

The sales trailer is at 520 Chelsea Drive in Chestermere.

Two Ways Into the Same Lifestyle

Bridgeport and Chelsea aren’t trying to be the same community. One leans into open space and a mix of home styles, the other focuses on family-built duplexes with an easy line back to the city. But they’re both rooted in the same thing that makes Chestermere worth considering in the first place: a lake at the centre of daily life, and a pace that feels a little more livable than the city just down the road.
