From Peanut Butter to Purpose: How One Tournament is Changing Lives

Community Involvement July 23, 2025

What do peanut butter and golf have in common?

At first glance, not much. But here in Calgary, they come together once a year in one of the most meaningful ways possible: The Peanut Butter Classic.

This women’s charity golf tournament has become a powerful force for good, raising funds for local organizations that support women and children in need. This year, the tournament raised an incredible $326,458, and we couldn’t be prouder the play a part in it.

Shane Homes: Proud Presenting Sponsor Since 2011

As a presenting sponsor since 2011, we are proud to support this event both on and off the course. This year, we had 3 teams from Shane Homes take part in the tournament. It’s something our team looks forward to every year, not just for the game, but for what it stands for. Being able to represent our company while supporting causes that matter to us makes it especially meaningful.

Why it’s Called the Peanut Butter Classic

The event got its name back in 2003 when founder Heather Forsyth asked the Calgary Food Bank what they needed most. Their answer? Peanut butter. It’s shelf-stable, nutritious, and in constant demand. Since then, the tournament has grown into something larger. It has raised over $2.6 million and donated more than 10,500 jars of peanut butter.

Who the Tournament Supports

This year’s funds are supporting several local organizations doing essential work, including:

  • Alcove Addiction Recovery: A long-term recovery program for women facing addiction, mental health challenges, and abuse. Alcove is the only recovery residence in Calgary where mothers and children can stay together during the healing process.
  • Firefighters Assistance Charitable Society: Provides meaningful support and resources to firefighters and their families during difficult times.
  • Veterans Association Food Bank: A community of veterans supporting one another, focused on improving the lives of veterans and their families.
  • Not In My City: Works to disrupt sexual exploitation and human trafficking through awareness, prevention, and coordinated action.
  • Dogs with Wings: Provides highly trained services dogs to people with disabilities, helping them live with greater independence and support.
  • Calgary Food Bank: This organization tackles food insecurity and provides immediate support to those facing emergency situations, alleviating the stress of food uncertainty.

These organizations each serve a different purpose, but they share one thing in common: they’re improving the lives of Calgarians.

We’re proud to be involved, and proud to support an event that continues to grow year after year.
