Creating a Backyard Oasis

Design July 20, 2018
Who doesn’t love spending summers in their backyard? Sunshine, greenery and flowers, a cool breeze through the trees—what’s not to love?! You can’t wait to spend some time outside, but there’s one problem: Your backyard is boring!

Creating an outdoor space where you can relax, entertain guests, and spend time with your family might seem like a large feat, but with these fun ideas, you will be enjoying your own backyard oasis in no time.

Do you want an outdoor kitchen?
If you’re like most homeowners, then summer also means it’s BBQ season. No backyard oasis is complete without a grill to fire up some good ol’ Alberta beef, but why stop there?

You need an outdoor kitchen complete with a countertop for food prep, cabinets and storage for food and cooking essentials, a small refrigerator, and even a sink. Your BBQ area will function like any kitchen. To go the extra mile, consider building a bar top with stools so you can entertain your guests while you cook!

Build a spacious patio or deck!
Your patio doesn’t have to be a simple concrete square and your deck doesn’t have to be just a wood platform!

Spruce up your patio by using attractive stone or bricks. Design a unique yet functional layout. Add a little charm with some fun flower beds or container gardens. After that, it’s just a matter of mixing weatherproof patio furniture and other décor features to make it your own creation! Comfort and aesthetics are possible in a single space.

Don’t just choose one—why not have both?!

With the right space and design, you can easily incorporate a deck into your patio design. For example, dedicate your patio space to your outdoor kitchen and leave your raised deck for dining and relaxing. It’s your backyard oasis, so you can make it whatever you want it to be!

What about a pergola or a gazebo?
Pergolas are a game changer for your backyard and can be used anywhere you want! Attach one to the side of your house casting shade over your deck, free-standing over your patio, or keeping the sun off your hot tub.

Take your design to the next level! Consider covering your pergola with vines and hanging twinkle lights from the top for when it gets dark out.

Another option: Adding a gazebo to your backyard is sure to bring your oasis to luxury status in no time. Enjoy your morning coffee in the shade, read a book in the sun, or catch up with a friend in the space. Your gazebo can be as versatile as you want it to be!

Gather your friends around the fire!
The ultimate weapon in any backyard oasis arsenal—the fire pit. If you don’t have a fire pit, you’re not only missing out on some tasty campfire-style treats, but a chance to share a fun night with your family and friends swapping funny stories, singing songs, and laughing all night long!

Fire pits can also be easily integrated into your patio design. Plus, there are so many options! From metal enclosures to the more impressive stone fire pits, something is sure to suit your backyard needs.

Hang out in the hot tub!
Rub-a-dub-dub. What’s a backyard oasis without an ultra-relaxing hot tub? If your backyard can accommodate a hot tub, it might just be the best feature you can add to your home. You work hard for the things you want. It’s only fair that you come home to a space that makes you forget the stress!

Relaxation aside, your hot tub will be another place to hang out with friends. Your backyard will be the place to be on weekends all summer long!

Let’s not forget Mother Nature…
What would any backyard be without a little help from Mother Nature? A healthy collection of trees, greens, and flowers can make all the difference in the world. There are so many ways to accent your backyard with nature. The sky’s the limit!
