How a strong community can make a difference in your life
The definition of a community is a feeling of fellowship with others. A closeness or a loyalty. This could be based on location alone or shared values and interests. It could be in your workplace, at your children’s school, or an organization you are committed to. In a sprawling city like Calgary, millions of communities intertwine as we move throughout our days.

Typically, people join new communities for some mutual benefit. Think of the communities you are a part of already. What do you gain from them? Why did you first choose to be a part of them? We choose employers based on obvious financial benefits but many of us search for environments that challenge us to improve our niche. We join associations that we believe in. We send our children to schools that will nurture and educate.

Choosing a neighbourhood
Deciding which neighbourhood to live in is perhaps one of the most challenging decisions you will have to make because it’s the community your family will spend most of their time in.
First, think about your lifestyle. Does your dog require space to run outside or do you love condo-style living in the city? Where do you spend your time after work hours? Consider nearby amenities and the proximity to your most-frequented places. Choosing a community that aligns with your lifestyle can only improve your quality of living.

Next, think about your future. Will your family be growing in a few years? Will you change jobs? Identifying your goals in relation to your family and career will help you decide if a community is the right fit.

The benefits of a strong community
At some point or another, most of us have lived in a less than an ideal community. That could be due to rude neighbours, a lack of cleanliness, or simply an undesirable location within the city. A strong community offers a support system in case of emergencies. Neighbours provide friendship.

Everyone knows the saying: “it takes a village to raise a child.” A strong community is a support system for your family. It’s a group of people working together to give your children a place to grow into. A strong community offers a haven to learn, play, and create connections of their own. It nurtures and protects.

When you choose a neighbourhood that meets your needs and aligns with your values, the benefits feel endless. Communities promote wellness, personal growth, and offers positive experiences. They bring families together to work towards common goals and rally for shared causes.

Shane Communities
Everyone has a role within their community, no matter how big or small. At Shane Communities, we recognize our membership within the larger community of Calgary. This city has been our home for generations and has been responsible for our livelihood for decades. For that reason, we’ve built giving back to our community into our philosophy.

As a company, we support health and wellness for our families. Our most recent endeavour is the Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge. In the past we’ve supported organizations that help children; advocate for women’s rights; offer safety to Calgarians suffering from addiction; and lend a hand to our city’s first responders. We promote athletics and education among our children. We work to bring our neighbours together and give them a place to call home.

We do everything we can to improve the lives of our families. We want to do more than just build homes. We want to make a difference in our community.
