The contest attracts a diversity of groups related to new home construction in Alberta from home builders, realtors, and architects to land developers, planners, engineers and consultants.  This contest provides an opportunity for entrants to get creative and design, build and decorate a gingerbread house with the sky being the limit – no architectural controls to follow, no plot planning, anything goes.

This year’s contest is conducted entirely online by entering a team and submitting photographs of your gingerbread design entry. By using social media tools and personal contacts to spread the word – the entry with the highest number of votes through online donations will be declared the winner! The winning team is awarded the coveted Sweet Award and bragging rights throughout the year.

Shane Homes was honoured to win first place in 2011 with $1868 raised for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.

This is our 2012 entry which raised $3225.

Voting officially ends at 7 pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2013.  After the winner is announced the gingerbread houses will be put on display at the Alberta Children’s Hospital for the kids at the hospital and their visitors to view during Christmas and hopefully bring a smile or two to someone going through a tough time this holiday season.  Please note that all gingerbread houses with photos posted online may not be available for viewing, as it is up to the entrants if and where they choose to display them.

For more information visit:  www.gingercane.com.  In order to view the press release please click here.

At Shane Homes we turn this competition into a fun team-building exercise and recruit staff from different departments to work on.  Stay tuned for photos of our 2013 entry.

Don’t forget to vote – whether it is for us or one of our competitors.  We may still be working on our creation, but you can still click here to donate and vote for Shane Home:  Click here to vote for Shane Homes.

Happy Holidays!
