Shane Homes Ltd., a leading residential home builder, constructing quality new homes in premier communities throughout Calgary and Airdrie has an opportunity to join its Estimating team as Junior to Intermediate Estimator.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, multi-tasked individual with excellent organizational and communication skills to work in a busy environment. A minimum of 3-5 years estimating experience within the residential construction industry is a necessity. The candidate must work well with peers as well as trades and suppliers. Preference will be given to candidates with experience with cabinetry and finishing carpentry and preference will also be given to candidates with experience in Sage 300/Timberline, Homefront, Precision Builder software.

Job Summary:
To control costs with accurate budgets and be the general estimator for all interior selections and outside supplier selections, ensure proper communication levels between Construction, Sales and Estimating at Shane Homes and with sub-trades and supplier partners.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Includes, but not limited to the following:
  • Produce accurate cost budgets on custom price requests for sales team.
  • Process interior design selection packages along with budgeting and issuing purchase orders for Design Centre change orders.
  • Process customer supplier selection packages along with creating change order, budgets and generating purchase orders for these selections.
  • Process customer cabinet and finishing selection packages along with creating budgets and generating purchase orders for all cabinets and finishing packages.
  • Generate budgets and issue purchase orders for all interior painting work.
  • Assist in the review of quotes for reasonability and process variances to budget as necessary, including explanation and backup for management review.
  • Assist in the review of invoices exceeding PO amount to determine legitimacy of charges and attach proper variance code to approved overages.
  • Review sold home contracts thoroughly to ensure items on plans reconcile to amounts charged and vice versa.
  • Prepare take-offs to support budgets on customer sold, spec and show homes.
  • Produce accurate cost budgets on sold customer home changes and custom requests.
  • Provide coverage for other team members temporarily away from the office.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the database by reporting errors and potential enhancements of all base model budgets, elevations and options assemblies.
  • Providing support and assist with projects as directed by the department Manager
