Prelude in Radisson Heights gives Calgarians experiencing homelessness a fresh start
New permanent supportive housing development provides support and stability for 23 vulnerable Calgarians
Calgary, Alberta, May 16, 2017 – Members of Calgary’s homeless-serving sector, government officials, Calgary homebuilders, donors and community supporters of Prelude in Radisson Heights (1719 34 St. SE) gather for the grand opening of the affordable housing building. Prelude is a permanent supportive housing development that will provide homes for 23 formerly homeless and vulnerable Calgarians. The apartment was built by Shane Homes Ltd., and NUOVO by Shane Homes as a part of their ‘Visionary’ donation to the Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) through the RESOLVE Campaign. The Alex Community Health Centre will provide client supports for the new residents, with HomeSpace Society as the property developer, owner and manager.

The opening of Prelude is a perfect example of the power of collective community impact. By coming together to provide urgently needed affordable rental housing with support services to meet the unique needs of individuals with long-term experiences of homelessness, Calgary is one step closer to ending homelessness. Prelude will provide a safe, affordable home for the new residents.

Shane Homes Ltd. and NUOVO by Shane Homes have committed up to $1.4 million through RESOLVE to construct Prelude. The remaining 70 per cent of funds required to construct Prelude in Radisson Heights was contributed through a capital grant from the Government of Alberta.

To meets its goals within Calgary’s Plan to End Homelessness, CHF is raising capital through RESOLVE to support its housing collaborator, HomeSpace Society, in the development of a series of permanent supportive housing buildings for vulnerable Calgarians. The opening of Prelude marks the fourth new build for the organizations. By raising capital through RESOLVE, it is changing the landscape of homelessness in Calgary and making a lasting impact on the quality of life for Calgary’s most vulnerable citizens.

RESOLVE is a unique collaboration of nine Partner agencies working to create affordable and supported rental housing for up to 3,000 vulnerable and homeless Calgarians. The Campaign adheres to the Housing First philosophy which provides stability and security to those who need it most. With the completion of Prelude, 23 formerly homeless and vulnerable Calgarians will soon know what it means to have a safe and permanent place to call home.

Shane Homes Ltd. and NUOVO by Shane Homes are part of a group of 11 Calgary home builders who have committed their support to CHF through RESOLVE. Each of the developments, including land, are expected to cost between $5 million and $5.6 million. The funding has been made available through grants from the Government of Alberta and contributions from ALBI Luxury by Brookfield Residential, Brookfield Residential Properties Inc., Calbridge Homes, Cardel Lifestyles and Logel Homes, Cedarglen Living Inc., Homes by Avi, Hopewell Residential Limited Partnership, Jayman BUILT Group of Companies, Morrison Homes, Shane Homes Ltd. and NUOVO by Shane Homes, and StreetSide Developments: A Qualico Company.
