Controller Multi-Family and Land

We are currently recruiting for a Controller- Multi-Family and Land Development.
 
The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic individual with excellent organizational, multi-tasking and communication skills. The candidate will report directly to the General Manager of Finance and be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management and financial reporting for the multi-family and land divisions. They will manage the day-to-day accounting functions and cycles to produce timely, accurate financial information and also collaborate in the development of internal controls and processes. Previous home building and land development experience and knowledge of Timberline/Sage 300 is considered an asset.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
As Controller- Multi-Family and Land Development, you will perform a wide range of duties including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Produce quality, timely and accurate financial statements for the land and multi-family subsidiaries
  • Oversee month and year end financial close processes; Develop and prepare the monthly management reporting package
  • Support, develop and encourage our high performing accounting department staff
  • Coordinate the preparation of all required statutory reporting
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Manage cash flow requirements and coordinate financing needs
  • Maintain and manage relevant insurance programs
  • Liase with outside stakeholders to ensure timeliness of billings, closings & cash receipts
  • Coordinate budget process as it relates to multi-family and land divisions
  • Provide value add analysis on variances and project progress updates
  • Produce management reports, forecasts and project proformas as required
  • Maintain relationships with our JV and LP partners; provide regular reporting on the status of these investments
  • Ensure compliance of prevailing processes, policies and programs, including FINTRAC
  • Develop business processes and accounting policies for the divisions; Maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Actively maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including insurers, bank, external accountants, warranty and software providers
  • Additional Corporate duties as necessary
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/CPA designation preferred
  • 6+ years of proven working experience as a financial Controller
  • Effective communicator – both verbal and written
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Ability to develop and review complex financial and forecast models
  • Experience in accounting for investments, land development and Multi-family would be a distinct advantage
  • Familiarity with Sage/Timberline software a plus
  • Excellent Skills in Excel, Word and databases
