Calgary, AB (June 8, 2016): Organizers of the 13th Annual Peanut Butter Classic Golf Tournament continue to set the pace for supporting women and children in need.

The Peanut Butter Classic is a ladies only charity golf tournament for women with passion: a passion to help and a passion to golf. Now in its 13th year, this event, run and organized entirely by volunteers, has raised over $1,377,000 to support programs for women and children in need, and contributed over 2700 jars of peanut butter to the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank. This remarkable achievement has been made possible with the help of our generous sponsors, golfers and volunteers.

Heather Forsyth, chair and founder of the Peanut Butter Classic says, “Since our 2004 inception, we’ve worked incredibly hard to make a remarkable difference to the lives of local women in need. This year, in particular, we are even more appreciative and grateful for our sponsors, golfers, prize donors and everyone contributing to the success of our tournament, with the local economy being as it is. We are making a concentrated effort to keep our costs lower to have more to give to Alcove as well, but we are also trying to keep the tournament at a level our guests have come to expect. It is incredible that this will be our 13th year! With the help and hard work of many volunteers we are setting our sights on raising $150,000 on June 13th."

The tournament will be held on Monday, June 13th at the popular Elbow Springs Golf Club and includes a complimentary Golf Clinic conducted by 7 Time Canadian Long Drive Champion Lisa “Longball” Vlooswyk, a gift bag for each golfer, lunch, followed by an 18 hole Texas scramble tournament. It wraps up with a delectable dinner, prizes, and a silent auction with a tempting selection of items. And to round it out nicely, Calgary Firefighters will be on select holes to heat things up and drive for ladies to help raise funds.

Shane Homes, a leading residential home builder constructing quality family homes in premier communities throughout Calgary and Airdrie since 1979, has been major sponsor since 2010.

Shane Wenzel, president of Shane Homes says, “At Shane Homes we have a passion for helping organizations that help women and children in need. In looking at donations, we also like giving to charities where a large percentage of the funds go to helping the charity versus administrative fees. The Peanut Butter Classic has been a perfect fit in achieving these goals.

“We are into our seventh year as major sponsor of the best ladies charity golf tournament in Calgary. It continues to amaze me that this tournament is organized entirely by volunteers with 98% of the funds raised being given to charities that help women and children in need.

“We are proud to be involved with the Peanut Butter Classic and look forward to another great year and helping them to achieve their goal.”

98% of the funds raised at the golf tournament are given to charity. The recipient charity again this year is the Alcove Addiction Recovery for Women (previously called Youville Recovery Residence for Women), a long-term recovery residence for women that operates in the Calgary area. Their mandate is to offer holistic recovery programming to a particularly vulnerable and challenged population of women, in some cases with their children, in a safe and loving environment. Calgarians who wish to donate directly to Alcove can do so by calling 403-242-0244 or visiting www.alcove.net
