Calgary, AB (June 3, 2014): Organizers of the 11th Annual Peanut Butter Classic Golf Tournament attract the support of one and in turn helps thousands!
The Peanut Butter Classic is a ladies only charity golf tournament for women with passion: a passion to help and a passion to golf. Now in its 11th year, this event, run and organized entirely by volunteers, has raised over $955,000 to support programs for women and children in need, and contributed over 2,000 jars of peanut butter to the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank. This remarkable achievement has been made possible with the help of our generous sponsors, golfers and volunteers.
Heather Forsyth, MLA for Calgary-Fish Creek, chair and founder of the Peanut Butter Classic says, “Since our 2004 inception, we’ve been trying to secure support from one of the many peanut butter brands. In May, we were lucky to land the support of Skippy Peanut Butter. They made a commitment to sponsor 3,876 jars of peanut butter and had them delivered directly to the Calgary Food Bank. This is a monumental milestone for the Peanut Butter Classic and we’re over the moon with the corporate sponsorship. This level of giving will go further to help thousands of families in Calgary and with that women and children.”
Shawna Ogston of the Calgary Food Bank says “This generous donation will go a long way in helping Calgarians in need. We distribute as many as 200 hampers a day plus we support 130 community organizations through the Food Link program so that they may focus on their services rather than sourcing food. This Skippy Peanut Butter will provide the important protein that families and individuals in crisis need, and that nourishment will help give them the strength to address their challenges.”
The Peanut Butter Classic tournament will be held on Monday, June 9th at the prestigious Heritage Pointe Golf Club and tees off with a complimentary golf clinic put on by Calgary’s own Lisa “Longball” Vlooswyk, 7-Time Canadian Long Drive Champion currently ranked 4th in the World. Each golfer will also receive a signature gift, breakfast followed by an 18 hole Texas scramble tournament and wraps up with a delectable dinner, prizes for all, and a silent auction with a tempting selection of items. And to round it out nicely, Calgary Firefighters will be on hand to lend support to the ladies and join in with the fun.
Shane Homes, a leading residential home builder constructing quality family homes in premier communities throughout Calgary and surrounding area for 35 years, has been the major sponsor of the Peanut Butter Classic since 2010. Shane Wenzel, president of Shane Homes says, “Shane Homes is proud to be major sponsor of the Peanut Butter Classic for the fifth year in a row. The dedication shown by the committee is tremendous and we are also proud and thankful to our industry who has also stepped up to sponsor this tournament including some of our developer partners, trades, suppliers, and fellow builders. Together we are helping women and children in need at Youville by supporting this tournament.”
98% of the funds raised at the golf tournament are given to charity. The recipient charity again this year is the Youville Residence Society of Alberta, a long-term recovery residence for women that operates in the Calgary area. Their mandate is to offer holistic recovery programming to a particularly vulnerable and challenged population of women, in some cases with their children, in a safe and loving environment. Calgarians who wish to donate directly to Youville Residence Society of Alberta can do so by calling 403-242-0244 or visiting www.youville.net
