News » Peanut Butter Classic – Surpassed 2013 Expectations
Organizers of the 10th Annual Peanut Butter Classic Golf Tournament are driven by the need to help women and children.
The Peanut Butter Classic is a ladies only charity golf tournament for women with passion: a passion to help and a passion to golf. The 10th annual event took place on June 10 and what a success it was. Unprecedented support from a variety of companies from assorted industries contributed to the $225,000 fundraised. Total dollars raised for local charities since 2004 is now over $954,000. What a remarkable feat and all with the help of our generous sponsors, golfers and volunteers. A cheque presentation took place on October 4, 2013 at one of the Youville residences.
Heather Forsyth, MLA for Calgary-Fish Creek, chair and founder of the Peanut Butter Classic says, “Well we did it again and surpassed a very lofty goal! The Peanut Butter Classic is made up of a remarkable group of women who work so diligently every year to reach new heights. Each woman on this board has a career and familial obligations and yet they astound me with their ability to balance and achieve. I am so thankful for their hard work which makes this event successful and for the generous sponsors, like our Presenting Sponsor, Shane Homes, for joining us in our endeavor to make a difference locally.”
The tournament held on Monday, June 10th was a resounding success with the help of many. The players enjoyed a beautiful day on Heritage Pointe Golf Course complete with breakfast, snacks, lunch and supper. They loved the signature tee gift and the hundreds of prizes and silent auction items up for grabs. The Calgary Inter-faith Food Bank assisted by collecting peanut butter and the Calgary Firefighters helped heat things up with their positive and playful attitudes.
Shane Homes, a leading residential home builder constructing quality family homes in premier communities throughout Calgary and surrounding area for over 34 years, was the presenting sponsor.
Shane Wenzel, president of Shane Homes says, “Shane Homes has been a major sponsor of the Peanut Butter Classic since 2010. One of the reasons we got involved with the Peanut Butter Classic is because 98% of the funds raised actually go to the charity and in my mind that is what charity is.
“After attending the last four tournaments I can see how truly inspired the women are to support this charity. Their passion for the cause is reflected in every fine detail of the tournament – like a new home it’s trimmed to perfection. There is a great understanding of the impact their support has.
“As a builder we are known for building communities, however it is also important to us to give back to those communities. In general, if you look at not-for-profit annual reports, support for health, education, and many other charities and initiatives, nine times out of ten you will find many participants from the building industry. We are an industry with big hearts. I thank and congratulate all those in our industry and outside our industry for supporting this great charity as well.”
98% of the funds raised at the charity golf tournament are given to charity. The recipient charity this year was Youville Residence Society of Alberta, a long-term recovery residence for women that operates in the Calgary area. Their mandate is to offer holistic recovery programming to a particularly vulnerable and challenged population of women, in some cases with their children, in a safe and loving environment. Calgarians who wish to donate to Youville Residence Society of Alberta can do so by calling 403-242-0244 or visiting www.youville.net
