News » Peanut Butter Classic – Setting up for a winning round!

The Peanut Butter Classic is a ladies only charity golf tournament for women with passion: a passion to help and a passion to golf. Now in its 10th year, this event, run and organized entirely by volunteers, has raised over $730,000 to support programs for women and children in need, and contributed nearly 2000 jars of peanut butter to the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank. This remarkable achievement has been made possible with the help of our generous sponsors, golfers and volunteers.

Heather Forsyth, MLA for Calgary-Fish Creek, chair and founder of the Peanut Butter Classic says, “The 10th Anniversary is a huge milestone for an event that started over coffee with a friend. We have hit our goal to raise $200,000 and with the event only days away, we hope to surpass our goal and make the lives of women and children in this city better for it. With the monies raised we make a significant difference to the bottom line of a local charity that is devoted to helping local women and children.”

The tournament will be held on Monday, June 10th at the prestigious Heritage Pointe Golf Course and includes a signature gift for each golfer, breakfast followed by an 18 hole Texas scramble tournament. It wraps up with a delectable dinner, prizes for all, and a silent auction with a tempting selection of items - some silent and some online. And to round it out nicely, Calgary Firefighters will be on hand to heat things up, lend support to the ladies and join in with the fun. For the first time, Calgary Interfaith Food Bank will be onsite to receive the peanut butter from the participants and Kraft Canada is matching that donation with another 240 jars of Peanut Butter.

Shane Homes, a leading residential home builder constructing quality family homes in premier communities throughout Calgary and surrounding area for over 30 years, has been the major sponsor of the Peanut Butter Classic since 2010. Shane Homes has committed to being the major sponsor until 2015 with an increased contribution to $112,500 over 3 years.

Shane Wenzel, president of Shane Homes says, “Shane Homes is particularly fond of supporting causes that promote heath, wellness and education and help change people’s lives for the better.

Throughout our sponsorship of the PBGC the recipient charity has been the Youville Recovery Residence for Women. In addition to sponsoring the golf tournament, Shane Homes has committed to helping Youville maintain and repair their residences to make the lives of the women and children there more comfortable. We realized they needed help and we have the means and manpower to do so. We are more than happy to help them however possible.

Congratulations to the Peanut Butter Classic on your 10 year anniversary and on raising over $730,000 since your inception.”

98% of the funds raised at this golf tournament are given to charity. The recipient charity this year is the Youville Residence Society of Alberta, a long-term recovery residence for women that operates in the Calgary area. Their mandate is to offer holistic recovery programming to a particularly vulnerable and challenged population of women, in some cases with their children, in a safe and loving environment. Calgarians who wish to donate to Youville Residence Society of Alberta can do so by calling 403-242-0244 or visiting
