News » Peanut Butter Classic is the perfect gift for Mother’s Day
Calgary, AB (May 8): Organizers of the 9th Annual Peanut Butter Classic Golf Tournament are working to help struggling mothers change their lives.
The Peanut Butter Classic is a ladies only charity golf tournament for women with devotion: a devotion to help and a devotion to golf. Now in its 9th year, this event, run and organized entirely by volunteers, has raised close to $560,000 to support programs for women and children in need, and contributed about 1500 jars of peanut butter to the Calgary Interfaith Food Bank. This remarkable achievement has been made possible with the help of our generous sponsors, golfers and volunteers.
Heather Forsyth, chair and founder of the Peanut Butter Classic says, “We are excited this year by the bigger challenge to raise $150,000. The opportunity to host an event that helps local women and their children that are struggling and help change their future, is so rewarding. Mother’s Day is a time to recognize the contribution women make every day to improve the lives of those around them – so why not help some of those struggling for a change. Support of this event has been outstanding and we know that players and sponsors find it just as rewarding as the organizers.”
The tournament will be held on Monday, June 11th at the prestigious Heritage Pointe Golf Course and includes a custom designed gift for each golfer, breakfast followed by an 18 hole Texas scramble tournament and wraps up with a sit-down dinner. There are prizes for all and a silent auction with a variety of enticing packages to bid on. And to round it out nicely, some of the Calgary Firefighters will be on hand to lend support to the ladies and join in with the fun.
Shane Homes, a leading residential home builder constructing quality family homes in premier communities throughout Calgary and surrounding area for over 30 years, is the major sponsor of the Peanut Butter Classic and is showing their devotion as well by increasing the amount of their sponsorship donation this year. Shane Wenzel, president of Shane Homes says, “We are in the third year of our sponsorship commitment and I issued a challenge for the committee to raise $150,000 - that is $50,000 more than has ever been raised for a single tournament. To help achieve this goal, Shane Homes increased our sponsorship donation this year from $25,000 to $37,500.
“This is a lofty goal but the committee is working extra hard to achieve it with the money raised going to such a great cause. I want to extend a special thank you to our developer, trade and supplier partners who are really stepping up to the green this year and are supporting this cause.”
97% of the funds raised at the charity golf tournament are given to charity. The recipient charity this year is the Youville Residence Society of Alberta, a long-term recovery residence for women that operates in the Calgary area. Their mandate is to offer holistic recovery programming to a particularly vulnerable and challenged population of women, in some cases with their children, in a safe and loving environment. Calgarians who wish to donate to Youville Residence Society of Alberta can do so by calling 403-242-0244 or visiting www.youville.net
