News » Peanut Butter Classic Raises over $100,000 for Youville

Calgary, AB (June 30, 2011): The organizers of a popular local charity golf tournament are ecstatic - raising $100,179.55 which will go to the Youville Residential Society of Alberta.

Heather Forsyth, MLA for Calgary-Fish Creek, chair and founder of the Peanut Butter Classic says, “on behalf of the committee and Youville I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, golfers and volunteers who helped us make our dream come true of raising over $100,000 this year. Reaching our goal will put a lot of smiles on the faces of the women and children who receive help from Youville."

Shane Wenzel, President of Shane Homes Ltd., a leading residential home builder, constructing quality family homes in premier communities throughout Calgary, Okotoks and Airdrie for over 30 years says, “we are fond of supporting causes that promote health and wellness and that are helping to change lives and the Peanut Butter Classic exemplifies this. Shane Homes is very proud to be the major sponsor and we look forward to being the major sponsor again next year with a challenge to raise $150,000.”

97% of the funds raised at the Peanut Butter Classic go directly to provide financial support to Youville Residential Society of Alberta, a long-term recovery residence for women that operates in the Calgary area. Their mandate is to offer holistic recovery programming to a particularly vulnerable and challenged population of women, in some cases with their children, in a safe and loving environment. Calgarians who wish to donate to Youville Residential Society of Alberta can do so by calling (403) 242 0244 or visiting

Since its inception eight years ago, the Peanut Butter Classic has raised over $547,000 for organizations supporting women and children in need, and contributed about 1,300 jars of peanut butter to the Interfaith Food Bank.

The Peanut Butter Classic is made up of a volunteer group of dynamic women dedicated to raising funds for women and children in need by hosting the annual ladies-only golf tournament. The Interfaith Food Bank says peanut butter is its most valuable item, hence the group’s name. Each year the Peanut Butter Classic asks participants to bring a jar that goes to the Food Bank.
