Our executive team is responsible for the strategic direction and growth of the company and they are dedicated to upholding our reputation of integrity and operational excellence. Each member of this team brings to their position a strong business acumen and a thorough knowledge of the specifics of the home building business, from design to quality, finances to safety, education to innovation, efficiencies to new technologies and more.

CEO / CVO
Cal Wenzel is CEO/CVO (Chief Visionary Officer) of the Shane Homes Group of Companies and he founded Shane Homes with partner Barry Basillie, in 1979. Home building is in his blood – his father built homes in Medicine Hat, with Cal helping out while still in high school.
Over the last three decades Cal has served as president of several home building associations, partnered in other home building and land development companies, served on numerous charity boards and has been honoured by his contemporaries with awards and other recognitions. In 2016, Cal was inducted into Calgary’s Business Hall of Fame as recognition of his lifetime achievements in business, entrepreneurial spirit and philanthropic contributions.
The philosophies that formed Cal's business plans for Shane Homes in 1979 hold true today. His commitment to the business is to maintain the best reputation for building quality homes, to continuously improve, and to satisfy his customers.

President
Shane Wenzel followed his father into the home building industry at a young age, learning the inner workings of the company with a hands-on perspective at job sites. He moved into sales and marketing, ultimately taking on the role as senior vice-president of sales and marketing. Shane is hard-wired into new technologies, and has crafted a high profile for the company on social media and online as well as introduced leading edge innovations to the Shane Homes Group of Companies product line based on customer input.
In 2010, he became the company’s president, sharing Cal's passion of putting customers first, with honesty and integrity. Shane serves on the board of directors of BILD Calgary Region and is chairman of the annual Calgary SAM Awards.

VP of Operations and Cost Control
With a focus on cost efficiencies through close relationships with suppliers and partners, Dave Rickett is responsible for day-to-day field operations and cost management for the Shane Homes Group of Companies. With more than 35 years of experience in the home building industry, Dave brings a wealth of knowledge to his role of managing trade and industry relations. His leadership and management of efficiencies ensures that Shane Homes delivers the most value in the shortest possible time frame.
Sharlene Rickett

VP of Administration and Education
Sharlene joined Shane Homes in 1992. She is responsible for all internal and external corporate relations, with an emphasis on researching and recommending changes to corporate policies as the dynamics of business relationships and customer expectations evolve. Sharlene's expertise in implementing best practices in customer relations extends in-house to her responsibility for all human resource policies and procedures, staff training and education initiatives plus innovation in workplace development procedures.
Rhonda Halyn

Guiding the company along the financial highway is one of the most important positions at the Shane Homes Group of Companies and Rhonda Halyn brings all the experience necessary. She has a CMA designation, and more than 20 years of accounting experience. Rhonda is highly proficient in her responsibilities of all financial reporting, budgeting and risk management and works closely with banking and legal partners. Rhonda is also responsible for information technology and has been instrumental in the company's technological strategies and their implementation.

Brenden joined the Shane Homes Group of Companies in 2014 as the General Manager of Land Development for Wenzel Developments. He brings to the Shane Homes Group of Companies a unique insight into the land development industry within Calgary, having previously worked on multiple residential community developments. Spending nine years working as a planning consultant, Brenden has worked with all of our development partners strengthening our valued relationships within our industry. His primary responsibility is managing and maintaining a land supply for the Shane Homes Group of Companies.

Kevin has spent the last 30 years in the hospitality business both as an employee and small business owner working with national and international companies. Kevin joined the Shane Homes Group of Companies in February of 2014 as General Manager - Multi-Family Division. His main focus is to ensure sufficient multi-family land supply, in addition to site sourcing, product design and development. Kevin continues to be active in the community both as a volunteer and on various boards and charitable organizations.
Rob Maleschuk

General Manager of Sales and Marketing
Rob is responsible for leading the Interior Design, Drafting, Marketing and Sales Teams.
He has considerable experience in multiple industries with a focus on business development and sales director management, a background that will support the company in their efforts to stay abreast of new sales and marketing trends and technologies, home designs, industry news and social media efforts.

Ron Heggs
Director of Special Projects
Ron grew up in the construction industry, and has worked in the residential home building industry for over 35 years. He joined Shane Homes in 1987 as a Project Manager directing construction in the field. In 1994 he moved to the position of Operations Manager where he became responsible for all field operations, and the design of internal training programs. Ron has training and expertise in all facets of new home construction and is a graduate of the Professional Home Builders Institute of Alberta as a Professional Site Manager. In 1996 he achieved the designation of Master Home Builder. He holds various other industry certifications and most recently received training in the use of solar energy. In 2005 he was appointed to the position of Director of Special Projects. His extensive construction history and knowledge allows him to take on the management of new projects for the Shane Group of Companies, and in researching and recommending innovative practices.

Don Quast
Production and Construction Manager
Don has been a student of the construction industry for more than 40 years, from working on construction sites to studying architectural technology to drafting and estimating. He ran his own renovation company for 11 years, prior to joining Shane Homes in 1992, where he has risen through the ranks to his current position. Don's responsibilities include the day-to-day operations of the construction department, as well as providing direction to all the trades involved in building our homes.
Paul Duncalf
Controller
Paul Duncalf
Controller
Paul comes to Shane Homes with more than 20 years accounting experience at the senior level and brings home building experience with him. He worked as the corporate controller at a company in Calgary in the mid-2000s and a home building company in the United Kingdom in the 1990s. Included in his background is managing an accounting team as CFO for a technology company in Calgary and just prior to joining Shane Homes, was an accounting professional recruitment manager with Robert Half. He is originally from the UK and he tells us he was once told by a colleague he was the only accountant with a personality.
