News » Shane Homes Slices $25,000 for Peanut Butter Classic
Calgary, AB (April 23, 2010): The organizers of a popular local charity golf tournament are euphoric! The unprecedented generosity of Shane Homes will contribute to the overall betterment of women and children in crisis. The ladies-only Peanut Butter Classic is pleased to announce Shane Homes as the 2010 Peanut Butter Classic Presenting Sponsor.
The 2010 Peanut Butter Classic will be providing direct financial support to Youville Residential Society of Alberta, a long-term recovery residence for women that operates in the Calgary area. Their mandate is to offer holistic recovery programming to a particularly vulnerable and challenged population of women, in some cases with their children, in a safe and loving environment.
“Having a presenting sponsor like Shane Homes is a real boost for the Peanut Butter Classic and their generous support will help us provide even greater support for deserving charities,” says Heather Forsyth, MLA for Calgary-Fish Creek, chair and founder of the Peanut Butter Classic. “The Peanut Butter Classic is truly blessed to have so many generous donors and hardworking volunteers and we can’t wait to tee off the 2010 tournament.”
Calgarians who are unable to attend the tournament but wish to donate to Youville Residence Society of Alberta can do so by calling (403) 242 0244 or visiting www.youville.net . Please remember to mention the Peanut Butter Classic.
In the past six years, the Peanut Butter Classic has raised over $360,000 for organizations supporting women and children in need, and about 730 jars of peanut butter for the Interfaith Food Bank. The 2009 Peanut Butter Classic was able to provide $50,000 for the YWCA Mary Dover House, Calgary’s only downtown facility that provides safe and supported housing for women and children in crisis or transition.
The Peanut Butter Classic is made up of a volunteer group of dynamic women dedicated to raising funds for women and children in need by hosting the annual ladies-only golf tournament. The Interfaith Food Bank says peanut butter is its most valuable item, hence the group’s name. Each year the Peanut Butter Classic asks participants to bring a jar that goes to the food bank.
